Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 20, 2026

This policy explains what Chat Keeper for iPhone and iPad (the "App") does with information. It is written by RBT Digital LLC ("we", "us"), the developer of the App.

1. Your conversations never leave your device

This is the part most people are asking about, so it comes first.

The chats you import, the photos, videos, voice notes and documents that came with them, and the database the App builds from them, are stored on your device. They are never sent to us and never sent to anyone else. There is no account, no sign-in and no sync. We cannot read your conversations, we cannot recover them, and we cannot unlock the App for you if you forget the passcode.

Nothing in the rest of this policy contains any part of a conversation: not a message, not a chat or participant name, not a file name, not a photo.

2. What the App sends about itself

The App uses Google Firebase to understand how it is used and to find crashes. Firebase is operated by Google LLC and Google Ireland Limited, and Google processes this information as our service provider. This is what is sent:

Usage statistics (Firebase Analytics): which screens are opened, and events for the steps of importing a chat and of the export tutorial. Sizes — how many messages or attachments a chat has, how long an import took — are sent as ranges ("1k_10k", "30s_2m"), never as exact figures, and never with anything from the conversation itself.

Crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics): when the App crashes, the stack trace and the state of the App at that moment.

Launch and session timings (Firebase Sessions).

A pseudonymous app instance identifier created by Firebase, plus your device model, iOS version, App version and language. Firebase also derives an approximate region from the network address of the request; the App itself never asks for your location and contains no location code.

We use this to decide what to fix and what to build next. It is not joined to your identity, and it is not used for advertising.

3. The support form

If you write to us from About → Send feedback, the App sends what you filled in to our support server:

your e-mail address (required, so we can answer); your message (required); your name (optional); a screenshot (optional, only if you attach one — the App never reads your photo library on its own); whether you asked for a copy of the message; the App version, your device model, its iOS version and its language, and the time you sent it.

We use this only to answer you and to reproduce the problem you describe. Do not put anything from a conversation into the message unless you mean to send it to us.

4. No tracking, no advertising

The App shows no ads. It does not ask for App Tracking Transparency permission, does not read the advertising identifier, and does not combine what it collects with data from other companies' apps or websites. Its privacy manifest declares no tracking domains.

5. Files you create yourself

Two features write files that you then control:

Backup produces a single file containing your database and media. You choose where it goes. A passphrase is offered and encrypts the file; without one the file is not encrypted. If you store the backup in iCloud Drive or another service, that service's own privacy policy applies to it.

Export produces a web page, PDF or text file of one chat, with its attachments if you ask for them. From the moment you save or share it, it is an ordinary file on your device and outside the App's control.

We receive neither of these.

6. What we keep, and for how long

Support messages are kept as long as we need them to answer you and to keep a record of the request. Firebase's analytics data is retained under Google's own retention settings for our project; crash reports are kept while they are useful for fixing the crash. We do not sell information, and we do not share it except with the service providers named in this policy or where the law requires it.

7. Where information is processed

We are a US company and Google operates servers in the United States and elsewhere, so information described in §2 and §3 may be processed outside your country, including in countries whose data protection laws differ from your own.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, or to object to our using it. Write to us from About → Send feedback and we will act on it. For the conversations themselves there is nothing for us to act on: they are on your device, and deleting a chat in the App, deleting the whole archive from About → Delete archive, or deleting the App removes them.

You can stop the App sending anything by deleting it. Crash reports and usage statistics are tied to a pseudonymous identifier rather than to you, so we may be unable to connect a specific report to a specific person.

9. Children

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent us something through the support form, write to us and we will delete it.

10. Third-party components

The App includes open-source libraries, listed with their license terms under About → Licenses. Those that transmit anything are the Firebase and Google libraries described in §2.

11. Changes to this policy

We will post a new version here and in the App, with a new "Last updated" date, when this policy changes. Changes take effect when they are posted.
